Walz Administration clean energy plan offers an important step forward
This morning Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced a new plan to put Minnesota on the path to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050. We are excited to see this administration making a strong commitment to tackling climate change.
This plan lays a very achievable and critical foundation for the rest of the work that needs to follow: electrifying our transportation, heating, and industry sectors.
Minnesota was already headed this direction, but it is important that our pace to achieving clean energy increases dramatically and that our commitment is complete. We have 12 years to reduce our state’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. We can do it.
Said MEP Executive Director Steve Morse: “This proposal is a major step in the right direction. We look forward to working with Governor Walz, the Legislature, and stakeholders around the state to make 100% carbon-free electricity a reality for all Minnesotans.”
