Who You Will Work With – The Team:

In the Policy Planning program, you will work with a group of highly driven, strategic, critical thinkers, with a passion for water resource management. You will collaborate closely with staff across all MCWD programs to support and enhance data-driven decision making and storytelling to help the District carry out its vision.

What You Will Be Doing – The Job:

  • Administer the District’s enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including managing spatial data and geodatabases, application development, and software deployments.
  • Serve as the District’s chief data steward, overseeing the acquisition, creation, storage, and distribution of geographic data within the organization and working to support data-driven decision making.
  • Lead the District’s spatial analysis efforts to derive deep insights that enhance the organization’s holistic understanding of natural resources and built environments.
  • Create professional and visually compelling maps that effectively communicate engaging stories to partners and the public.
  • Work with the Operations program to assess the District’s broader Information Technology (IT) needs and plan for strategic investments to advance the District’s data-driven culture.  

What You Will Bring to MCWD:

  • A passion for advancing MCWD’s Balanced Urban Ecology vision of watershed management
  • The capacity to track, digest, and manage detail while maintaining a strategic perspective
  • An ability to effectively communicate complex concepts orally, in writing, and in presentations
  • A drive to stretch, learn, and grow in a high performing environment
  • Strong and engaging verbal, visual, and written communication skills
  • An ability to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, working relationships with colleagues, consultants, local and agency staff, and the general public
  • 3-5 years of experience in GIS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Landscape Architecture, Computer Science or closely related field
