Ontario’s government is considering a plan that would implement the Great Lakes Compact language that Minnesota agreed to in February and at the same time it would create a “conservation charge” for bottling water within the Great Lakes basin. The fee would be expected to expand to all industries that consume Great Lakes water.
Ontario’s Environment Minister is quoted as saying, “Any company that profits from our careful stewardship of the water supply should pay their fair share towards managing that supply; that’s only right.”
